Dr Sue Redding B V Sc

Dr Sue graduated from Queensland University, has previously owned and operated Tallai Veterinary Surgery for 14 years and in 2006/07 completed a medical research commitment at the world leading Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

She is married with three children, one dog (Harley), one cat (Wilson) and a heap of African cichlid fish.

Dr Sue has been involved with numerous sporting groups as well as the Girl Guide and Scouting movements in the Mudgeeraba area. Dr Sue has a passion for netball though her knees do NOT share the same passion. She currently settles for kayaking, bush walking and camping.


 Dr James Routledge B V Sc

Dr James graduated and worked in NZ with dogs, cats, farm and Zoo animals in NZ, Fiji and Australia. He first met and worked with Dr Sue on the Gold Coast in 1989.

In 1991 he was invited to Hong Kong to help build the country's first Veterinary Hospital. For 12 years he headed the hospital of 6 doctors and 17 nurses with wide medical and surgical capabilities including intensive care medicine and orthopaedic, spinal, cardiac & complex soft tissue surgery. He was co-surgeon in the first hip replacement in the country and also the first cataract surgery to restore sight to canine and feline patients.

In 2002 Dr James returned to Australia working in Northern NSW, until rejoining his long-time friend and colleague Dr Sue and the rest of team at ExcelVets in 2014. Having a keen passion for state of the art medicine and surgery, with special interests in Ophthalmology,Orthopaedics, Cancer treatment and Family Veterinary medicine, he hopes to continue helping patients well into the future.

Dr James lives with his lovely wife Joanne, 2 children, 2 cats and 6 chickens on a lifestyle block and enjoys caravanning, boating and fishing.

 Dr Cathy Meehan B V Sc

Dr Cathy grew up on a dairy farm in country Queensland. Her favourite animals included Mary the jersey cow and Suzy the pet pig. She subsequently became a Veterinary Surgeon - also along with her husband Dr Rod Meehan.
Dr Cathy has enjoyed the benefits of living and working in countries such as the United Kingdom and Japan as well as Australia (Cathy & Rod were co-owners of a very successful veterinary enterprise on the Gold Coast).
Dr Cathy has lived on the Gold Coast for 20 years with her husband, 3 beautiful children, her dog Penny and two guinea pigs Cookie and Sooty.
She love tennis and playing the piano, camping, bike riding, bushwalking and spending quality time with her friends and family. 
"I am passionate and privileged to be working within a profession that I love and with an amazing, friendly and compassionate team" says Dr Cathy.


 Melanie Home - Practice Manager (Cert IV Vet Nurse)

Having always been an animal lover, Mel has been in the industry for the last 7 years and wouldn't change it for the world. She is fantastic with clients and their pets and nothing is ever too much to ask.

Originally from Jersey, Channel Islands, Mel has lived on the Gold Coast for the last 14 years.

She lives with her husband Matt, 2 Daughters Jasmine and Ruby, Son Samuel and their pets Timmy, a Cavalier King Charles and Milo their 13 year old Burmese.

During her free time Mel enjoys nothing more than a walk on ther beach with Timmy, watching Samuel play footy or going off camping with her family.


 Justine Scarborough - Certificate IV Vet Nurse

Justine Scarborough has been a mad animal lover her entire life.  Born & bred on the Gold Coast she has ridden horses since the age of 5.

She still owns the thoroughbred she competed on in her 20's – "Star" now 27yo, "Murphy" the gorgeous Irish Wolfhound/Bully, "Mickey" the clinic cat from a previous job, "Leila" the cockatiel and 5 hard working chickens. They all share acreage in the beautiful Tallebudgera Valley with Husband Chris & 2 young children.

Having travelled through America & England in her younger years, Justine settled back on the Gold Coast and has been a qualified nurse since 1996. 

She has a keen interest in surgical nursing and pain relief.  She will make sure your pet's stay here at our vet clinic at ExcelVets is as comfortable as possible.


Michelle Thornton - Certificate II Vet Nurse

Michelle is currently studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

She has been working with animals for 4 years as well as volunteering at a local animal shelter and is a dedicated foster carer caring for abandoned or orphaned kittens.

Puppy Preschool classes are so capably conducted by Michelle at ExcelVets.

Michelle and her partner are house keepers for 2 dogs (Tahlia and Gemma), 2 cats (Simba and Houdini) and 2 Conure Parrots (Bobby and Ruby).

In her spare time Michelle enjoys taking horse riding lessons, beach walking with her partner and dogs, as well as taking camping trips.

Her interests for the future include studying animal behaviour and training as well as learning more about wildlife.


Candace Johnstone - Certificate IV Vet Nurse

Candace and her partner have lived on the Gold Coast for 5years.  They have a Beagle called Bella, two cats Rusta and Kaos and a bunch of tropical fish.

Candace has always had a great passion for animals, and after 8years of office work she knew it was time to change her career to something she loved.

Following the completion of a Diploma in Canine Behaviour and a Certificate II in Animal Studies, Candace qualified in 2014 with her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

In her spare time Candace enjoys going on scenic bush walks, boating & fishing, taking Bella on bike rides with her partner and going out with friends.
